PEERbots are robots that provide…
Peer-based Educational & Emotional Relationships. The term was created by Aubrey Shick and Tess Lojacono to describe their work and ongoing collaboration at Fine Art Miracles, Inc (FAM), a nonprofit organization offering the benefits of Creative Expression and Social Robotics.
The PEERbots app is an open-source social robot and controller platform lead by John Choi and Aubrey Shick, supported in part by Fine Art Miracles, Inc. It is a hardware agnostic solution aimed at bringing the benefits and joys of social robots to a broad audience. The intention is to use this solution to support wellness programming, education, research, entertainment or whatever makes the world a better place. In light of COVID-19, with much encouragement PEERbots has formally become a software 501(c)(3) nonprofit to develop free tools to support tele-education and care for millions of individuals who are struggling with current remote services. Our goal is to continue improving the tool we already have to better serve caregivers and families. An additional goal is to establish partnerships to demonstrate the value of these tools in research settings. The Autism Science Foundation has provided early seed funding for PEERbots iOS, to widen the reach and access of these valuable tools, especially for children on the autism spectrum. |
